در روز شنبه ۲۱ مرداد  ۱۳۹۱ دو زمین‌لرزه‌ نسبتاً شدید آذربایجان شرقی را لرزاند و به دنبال آن خبر خرابی ها و کشتار آن را دیدیم و شنیدیم. به زودی مردم در سراسر ایران و در نقاط مختلف دنیا به کمک مردم آسیب دیده شتافتند. در شهر ما هیوستون هم تلاشی کوچک رخ داد که در پایان آن رویهم 9000$ گردآوری شد.  این مبلغ که کانون فرهنگی ایرانیان مسوولیت جمع آوری و حسابداری آن را به عهده گرفته بود، به بنیاد کودک فرستاده شد، با این شرط که تنها برای ساختن یک یتیم خانه یا دبستان در منطقه ی زلزله زده هزینه شود.  در جدول زیر، نام کوچک و حرف اول نام خانوادگی کسانی که به این تلاش کمک کردند و مبلغ کمک هر کدام نوشته شده.  اگر نام و مبلغ کمک خودتان را در این جدول نمی بینید، با دفتر کانون تماس بگیرید تا پیگیری کنیم.  رسید حواله ی پول و نامه ی بنیاد کودک که نشان می دهد هدیه ی هیوستون را برای کمک به زلزله ی تبریز دریافت کرده اند، در آخر همین صفحه پیوست شده است

On Saturday, August 11, 2012, two consecutive earthquakes shook the Eastern Ajarbijan Province in Iran that left hundreds dead and devastated several villages and towns.  The Houstonians raised a total of $9000.00 for the survivors of this natural disaster.  The funds were deposited in the ICF account under the “Earthquake Relief ” sub account and wire transferred to Child Foundation to be expended toward building either a school or an orphanage.  Child Foundation has pioneered in its effort to take relief to the survivors of the earthquake immediately after the incident.  In addition, they raised $300 thousand (maximum allowed by the State Department) in the U.S. during the first period of OFAC License and another $300 thousand during the extended period that ended on November 19, 2012.  Houston’s $9000 contribution was sent to Iran with the second transaction. These funds are received by the “Bonyad Koodak”, an Iranian NGO, which  has no affiliation with the Iranian Government and will be used exclusively for charity.
